First Step to Whole and Healthy Foods

On occasions I will be sharing some whole food helps because I wanted to share with you my journey as I have switched my family from all white and processed foods to whole grains, fresh veggies and fruit, brown rice and nothing store bought. It took some time and learning to love healthy foods but it has been worth it! The change was not just for me but my whole family and we will never go back. It may or may not be easy for you or your family but I encourage you to switch to whole foods.

Proverbs 31:14-15 says, ” She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.”  It takes time and work to plan and make your family real food. Even if we have to get up while it is still dark outside to make it happen then that is what we need to do.  We need to take the time to plan and prepare ahead so even when were in a hurry we have healthy food to give our families. Home cooking is the way to save money and calories! Some recipes that I will share will be fried, but I have found that if I am frying my own chicken or french fries we don’t have it near as much since it does take more time than just going though a drive thru. Also, I will share some yummy dessert recipes, but even desserts should not be all that you make your family.

The first step in switching to whole foods I took was to stop being so addicted to sugar. Do you really need soda every day? or southern sweet tea? and coffee that is so full of flavored creamer and sugar? or dessert every night? No! Believe me when I say that I was so addicted to sugar. Before I switched to a healthier lifestyle I loved to have coffee in the morning with crème burlee creamer and 2 big tablespoons of sugar, but now I don’t even want it. I have coffee sweetened with truvia.  I don’t miss my Coca-Cola and I am happy with unsweet tea. Now, I only have dessert once a week. Now, I know what you are thinking ” I could never give up all that.” It is hard, but just try it for a week. I believe that you will feel better. I hope to encourage some of you who are wanting to have more healthier meals that you can do it! You can plan and prepare healthy foods that are homemade and absolutely delicious! Stay tuned for more yummy recipes!

As a side not if you don’t want to switch to a whole foods diet my recipes will work with any type of flour, pasta, rice that you choose. I am just wanting to share what I have done in my own life. Also, many of my recipes will be gluten free for those of you who choose to do so.

Thanks for the encouraging post. How long did it take for the daily sugar cravings to go away?

It was different for each sugary thing I was drinking. It only took a few days fro me to enjoy stevia with my coffee. I actually much prefer the stevia over sugar. When it came to the coke that I loved to have once a week it took a month to stop craving it. I have been soda free now for over a year and don’t miss it. As I just started eating more healthy and eating whole foods I just enjoyed the simple taste of everything and it just happened that I started liking unsweet tea. I believe that eating healthy is a journey and will be different for everyone and their family. I encourage you just to take baby steps!
