Do you like baked beans or are you a hater of them? I have always liked to eat baked beans. My mom would make it once a week it seemed like. Now, I know why! They make a super easy and healthy side dish- especially this stove top version!
Making your own baked beans just takes a few things you usually have in your fridge and mixing it in with some cooked cannellini beans. If you want to make these beans a bit extra special flash fry some rosemary leaves to sprinkle on top. I do this sometimes.
You might want to make these for your end of the summer labor day barbecue. I know you will not be disappointed! These are also perfect for those busy weeknights and you want a simple and delicious side to go with your grilled chicken or cheeseburgers. I don’t know what else to say other than use some basic and fresh ingredients and whip up this delicious recipe!
Stove-Top Maple Baked Beans
1 cup diced onion
4 slices of bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup chicken broth or water
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 cups of cooked cannellini beans or 15 ounce can rinsed and drained
- In a large 12 inch skillet, cook the bacon and onion together until bacon is crispy and onions are soft. Pout in the ketchup, chicken broth, Dijon mustard, and balsamic vinegar. bring to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes for flavors to infuse.
- Add the beans and heat through about 3 minutes. Season with slat and pepper to taste and even add a bit more maple syrup if you like it sweeter.
- Serve and enjoy!
