Some nights call for a meal that is tried and true and everyone loves. Oven tacos are not a new thing. They have been floating on the internet for years. I just wanted to share a recipe for a meal that I know my family will enjoy and be thankful for, because just sometimes you want to skip the ” new ” recipe and make everyone happy!
This meal could almost be considered a dump dinner because it is so easy to put the ingredients together and have taco night. This recipe uses a homemade taco seasoning and then tomato sauce for extra flavor. I know you will not be disappointed!
I love that i can make it and bake it and everyone can add the toppings they want and have a hot taco at the same time. A one pan dinner is so much easier to serve at the table!
This is an easy recipe I make often. Not only is it budget friendly, but also simple.
1 pound lean hamburger or ground turkey
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 cup diced onion
1 jalapeno, seeded and minced ( optional )
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 garlic gloves, minced or teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 8 ounce can tomato sauce
Hard shells ( for oven tacos ) or tortillas
1 1/2 cups of shredded montery jack and colby cheese
Favorite taco toppings
1. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet and and when hot add the onion and jalapeno. Saute until onion is soft about 7 minutes.
2. Add the hamburger or ground turkey with salt and pepper and cook breaking up into pieces. When meat is entirely cooked, drain any excess grease.
3. Add the garlic, chili powder, cumin, and corainder and stir until fragrant about 30 seconds. Add the tomato sauce and stir together real good. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
4. To make them oven tacos. Preheat oven to 375. Line a 13×9 inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Place hard shells ( we like the ones from Trader Joe’s) in the pan. Scoop filling into tacos and cover with shredded cheese. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Serve with favorite toppings.
